The tenor promises to return soon to Barcelona

Jonas Kaufmann, the much-anticipated German tenor, was invited to have an interesting conversation with Christina Scheppelmann, artistic director for the Gran Teatre del Liceu, for an audience of over 400 at the Auditorio de la Fundación RBA.

Held on the Barcelona opening night of the opera Andrea Chénier, the conversation was the result of a collaborative effort by the Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Fundación RBA, currently presided by Ricardo Rodrigo. The German tenor spoke of enjoying his stay in the city very much and hoping to return soon. Considered one of the greatest tenors in the world, he granted that the key to his success was a passion for music, perseverance, and a wide vocal range that gave him access to a variety of opportunities. In addition, Kaufmann defended the need for kids to have access to musical education, to be able to discover music when they’re young. He confessed that on this opening night of the opera he felt a very special, very rare connection with the audience at the Liceu.
